Decaf Chai

This tea has a good warm spice flavor for cold winter days!

This is such a delicious decaffeinated masala chai! I made it on the stovetop with water and milk and added a little sugar after straining the blend out. The sugar really brings out the cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger, and these spices shine the most. I love the addition of nutmeg, peppercorns, and clove - those spices definitely add another layer to this lovely chai blend! Everything tastes super fresh and the black tea chosen is a smooth base for the spices. This is a must-have for anyone who loves masala chai and is looking for a decaffeinated version!

You would not know this tea is decaf; drinking this in the mornings allows me to keep to my tight caffeine budget but still gives me a boost of energy from the spices. My sample pack however contain a significant amount of whole clove, which I don't enjoy, but as it was the second to last ingredient, I assumed there wouldn't be a ton of it. It wasn't a terrible bother to pick them out, and perhaps it was just my sample pack that was unbalanced this way. When just one or two were brewed in my cup, the flavor was great.

This Chai is almost mostly spices and not the actual tea. When used alone it will not produce a regular cup of tea but watery peppery drink that is very unpleasant. I did not want to have to deal with sending this back so I started adding some regular decaf tea bags to the brew and it turns out fine. However I was looking for a loose leaf chai for the exact reason that this one does not live up to; a dark strong chai tea like you can get at an Indian restaurant or if you use loose leaf black tea and spices and make it yourself. So I won’t be ordering this one again. Honestly I do not think the description on this is accurate.
