The defining factor of an Asamushi style Sencha is it's light, quick steaming. Because the steaming is so short (20-40 seconds) it's imperative to use only the highest quality tea leaves as any unwanted traits can easily remain present in the finished product. One of the oldest green tea varieties from China, Pinhead Gunpowder was originally called 'Zhu Cha', which translates to 'Pearl Tea'. Later, it became known to the Western world by its British nickname, Gunpowder Tea. The unique method of rolling the tea into tiny pellets preserves the flavor and aroma in the leaf.
