Description

Wake up with German Breakfast, a bold, full-bodied black tea built around a robust Assam character. If you like a morning cup that delivers presence and flavor, this blend gives you bright, malty notes with warming hints of caramel and a pleasantly brisk finish. It is strong enough to stand up to milk or cream, and smooth enough to enjoy black when you want a clean, invigorating cup.

Think of it as an East Frisian-style breakfast tea, crafted for drinkers who prefer a rich, coppery profile rather than something light and floral. Many fans reach for it as a coffee alternative, others fold it into a blend to mellow the edges, and it also makes a lively iced tea when brewed and chilled. Versatile, straightforward, and reliably bold, German Breakfast is a morning staple for those who want a classic, no-nonsense start to the day.

This tea is excellent!

This tea is excellent! The flavor is strong but not overpowering. It provides a little energy boost in the morning, too.

This tea will get you going!

I steeped 3 grams in 12 ounces of 212 degree water for 3 minutes. This is a very malty, strong, robust, flavorful Assam breakfast tea with a brisk finish! I found this one in particular to be full-bodied with leathery notes with a slightly astringent finish. It plays really well with milk and sugar and it definitely gave me the boost I needed! I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a strong and flavorful breakfast tea to have first thing in the morning!

STRONG

This is a very strong and dark tea. I like to mix it with a smaller amount of one of my favorite flavored teas to cut it a bit.

Best of the breakfast teas

A perfect smooth dark breakfast tea. No bitterness at all when brewed according to suggested time & temp. I would even venture to say that first steep time could be cut back to 3 minutes resulting in an even richer second steep done for 4 minutes. I prefer my tea straight with no additives, however this tea would stand well with added cream &/or sweetner. It will also make an excellent iced tea whether sweetened or not. A pure tea that is definitely a signature.

WK German Breakfast tea is a great tasting pick me up any time of the day. I like it best with a bit of half & half and sometimes a dab of honey if I need sweetened up. I particularly like the fact that the caricature of the tea is such that that a bit of cream adds to it's richness rather than detracting or watering it down.

Tea was completely bland and tasteless. Will have to try it with honey and review again

Fantastic, but not as good as Scottish Breakfast

I will admit, I am not a fan of malt. This tea is very smooth, very delicious, and is a fantastic breakfast tea. However, compared to Scottish Breakfast, this tea does have a bit of a malty taste at the finish. Because of that, I use Scottish Breakfast as my daily breakfast tea.

East Frisian Broken Blend meets Irish Breakfast

I was looking for a very specific, very bold flavor profile in a morning breakfast tea that would serve as a coffee substitute. This tea hit the nail on the head. Incredibly bold, copper and malt notes along with leather and tobacco. I make a full pot early in the day and drink it piping hot with cream. I know it's exceptional because I've offered a cup to guests that immediately want to know where I purchased it. If you're looking for eye-opening coffee killer, this tea will rock your world.

great everyday tea

This tea is what really brought me to WK. I received the monthly subscription as a gift and this tea stood out as an exceptional black tea blend. I had previously been a mainly bag tea drinker and fully converted after drinking this tea. I drink my tea black. This tea is robust and strong but without the bitterness of a bag tea. I've tried several of the other blends and this is my favorite.

A good morning blend

I used to enjoy East Friesian Blend and was sad when it went away. So I was thrilled to discover that German Breakfast is basically the same thing. Breakfast teas are my go-to and this one is a nice way to wake up in the morning.

A nice surprise

I had some preconceptions when I read the name “German Breakfast” that were completely overturned by my first sip. I always take my breakfast tea with milk and sugar, but even within the range of milk & sugar teas this tea was surprisingly sweet & smooth, a very pleasant cup.

If you like strong black tea this is for you. I let it steep long and drink it black. Two cups in the morning does it.

My favorite tea

I love this tea. It is fantastic. Received a sample with my very first order, then couldn't find it on the site again. Can you say distressed? I certainly was. But, a quick email to the fine folks at The Whistling Kettle, and all was made clear and I ordered more of my favorite.

One Of My Favorite Breakfast Teas

A great tea to get you going in the morning. Bold flavor and aroma without being harsh or bitter. Black with sugar!

Outstanding flavor.

I've always been partial to the various breakfast blends, but when I first tried the East Frisian I knew I had found my favorite. It is just so much richer than the others (even if you get the loose tea from Ehistling Kettle). My wife doesn't like the strong hot tea as much, but I make a big pot and she dilutes the extra and says it makes the best iced tea she has ever had.

Awesome for iced tea cold brew

Been using it for cold brew primarily. It tastes great after 24 hours, and stronger after up to 3 days (never infused longer than that... its always gone before then!!)

I like it hot, too, but don’t leave the leaves in for too long - it gets bitter!
