ENERGY & BRAIN FUEL TUMERIC TEA BLEND
FEATURING PURPLE TEA
Using a unique blend of teas and herbs, we are going to provide you with what probably is the most biodynamically advanced tea blend available ANYWHERE.
This tea will provide you with energy – long lasting, sustained energy without the caffeine crash.
This tea will help kick start your digestion system, and especially in the morning, help you better absorb nutrients and process fats.
This tea also will boost the brain – using powerful anti-oxidants and safe, natural organic herbs.
This tea also strengthens the immune system, helping your body fight off infections and prevent disease.
All these benefits are built into this tea. However, you can add two additional ingredients found in your local grocery or health food store to create the ultimate morning cocktail.
Best of all, Trugrit tea is easy to make and safe to use on a daily basis, with no long term side effects*.
You may be asking – why not just drink tea, or take tea capsules?
We’ve researched and written about green tea extract (in the form of capsules) and warned against doing so. In short, the process of creating the extract is highly industrial and concentrates potent anti-oxidants in green tea to dangerous levels. So much that within a few months of our article, Consumer Reports listed Green Tea Extract as a supplement to avoid.
Green tea is great, and if you are drinking green tea regularly, or any quality tea for that matter, CONTINUE TO DO SO. Trugrit tea is meant to replace just one of your daily cups of tea. Morning is best, but you can take Trugrit at other times. However, it does contain caffeine so we wouldn’t recommend it in the evening.
What about Red Bull or other energy drinks?
Many of these drinks contain high amounts of sugar and caffeine, but little else. They might provide you with a short term boost of energy, but energy drinks are not healthy for long term use. Wouldn’t you rather drink something that works better than energy drinks and can boost your health as well?
How about coffee?
Coffee is great, and as long as you continue to not overdo it (i.e. more than the 400mg of caffeine per day) continue drinking it. Trugrit should be substituted for a cup of coffee, preferably in the morning to avoid a coffee caffeine ‘crash’ and provide you with the additional benefits.
So what exactly is TruGrit Tea?
Trugrit is a blend of teas with the addition of select herbs and spices. We’ve combined these healthy ingredients into ONE CONVIENENT BLEND – taking the worry out of having to maintain an inventory of multiple ingredients.
At the heart of this blend is our TEA TRIFECTA. That is Pu-erh Tea, Purple tea and Yerba Mate. These teas all have different biological half-lives. Meaning, they are absorbed at different times by your body, providing you with SUSTAINED energy.
Pu-erh tea has been around for a long time. It’s a type of tea that has been fermented. During the fermentation process, bacteria alter the chemical nature of the leaf transforming it into a new type of tea! We like it because it promotes healthy digestion and blood circulation.
Purple tea – A new type of tea we are excited about. It was developed in Kenya and grown at elevations between 4,500 and 7,500 feet. This high altitude near the equator results in higher levels of UV bombardment, and causes the plants to produce very high levels of anti-oxidants to protect the leaves from damage. The purple appearance of the tea is caused by anthocyanin, which is the same powerful anti-oxidant found in blueberries. In fact, it contains 1.5 percent compared to .1 percent for blueberries.
It has higher levels of polyphoenals than black tea, high levels of EGCG like green tea, and also contains GHG, a unique compound found only in purple tea. Studies have shown that GHG has a higher radical scavenging rate than green tea, and also has been shown to boost metabolism and assists your body with processing fats.
Yerba Mate - Yerba Mate, or just Mate, (prounounced MAH-TE) rounds out the core. What separates this from the other items on this list are two key chemical compounds that Mate contains: theobromine and theophylline. These provide a mild and long lasting stimulant effect, and they increase the presence of dopamine in the brain, increasing motivation. In addition, Mate is chock full of B and C vitamins, offering yet more health benefits.
We could have stopped here, but we’ve decided to add even more to the blend to give it additional power.
Turmeric has been used for decades to treat a number of ailments in Asia and Asian subcontinents, and with good reason. Tumeric contains more than two dozen anti-inflammatory compounds. While the physical health benefits are prevalent, what is little known is that the newest studies related to this spice shows that turmeric increases brain function by telling the brain to produce more BDNF (Brain Derived Neurotropic Factor), which is a hormone that tells the brain to function at higher levels.
Many people are aware that ginger can help with digestion, which is one reason that this is added to this mix. What might not be known, however, is the biggest reason that this is added – ginger has been shown to help control blood sugar levels. Without constant spikes and drops in blood sugar, appetite decreases and energy levels are improved, both of which result in you feeling better throughout your day!
Cacao has a history of being a superfood – but why? Aside from the fact that the taste of this food causes your body to produce oxytocin (which will elevate your mood) but it also has two key minerals – Magnesium and Potassium. Magnesium has been called the “migraine miracle” in some circles, as high quantities have been shown to reduce migraine symptoms. Magnesium also helps with protein synthesis, which increases energy and helps the body recover from workouts or other physical trauma. Potassium is well known to help prevent muscles from cramping, and it also helps internal organs function better.
The secret to Chili flakes is in the fact that it contains capsaicin, which recent studies have shown may have great effect on the human body. The most important studies are showing that the taste of capsaicin causes your body to release anti-spasmodic chemicals that may prevent or reduce cramping. If you plan on working out, the chili flake is your second best friend after water.
This wonderful spice aids in exercise recovery and also helps your body increase its insulin-receptors ability. In short, it helps you be less sore from working out, and it is another ingredient that will help you control your blood sugar levels, increasing energy and mood.
Honeybush tea is closely related to rooibos, and offers many of the same health benefits, but with a slightly sweeter taste. The purpose of this addition is to supply a large number of trace minerals to the mix. Your body often craves what it is lacking, so ensuring that you get these minerals helps stem cravings, preventing you from eating something that you are going to regret.
Safflower has been shown to possibly assist with managing blood sugar, weight gain/loss, and control muscle contractions.
How do I make it?
Using a disposable paper tea bag, or a strainer basket (we do not recommend tea balls for this tea) use about 2 level tablespoons per 16 ounces hot boiling water. Pour the hot water over the tea and let steep for about 4-5 minutes.
If you prefer sweetness, use a little honey (try to avoid pure sugar).
Drink up and see how much better you feel.
If your primary goal is to lose weight, then Trugrit can be a part of an ideal weight loss program when combined with other teas.
If you need to lose a lot of weight, TruGrit is a great tool to help you achieve your goal. However, it is best used with other teas throughout the day. We developed a package called Skinny-Sipper which had Trugrit at its core, but also additional teas to help cleanse and detox the body.
Add additional features to your Trugrit Tea
With all these ingredients, this blend is great on its own. However, you can add some optional ingredients to add additional features:
Grass Fed Butter
- Only grass-fed butter has the right fats that regulate cholesterol, instead of adding to it. Grass-fed butter has the best ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids (which reduces body fat) and is a good source of vitamin K, both of which (according to a recent study) reduce the risk of heart disease.
- It provides healthy fats for your brain and body to create cell walls (membranes) and hormones. The short-chain fatty acid Butyrate, once thought to be bad for you, has been linked to preventing neurodegenerative diseases, increased energy expenditure, and is also anti-inflammatory, further preventing heart disease.
- Drinking it each morning puts your body in the routine to burn fat all day, helping you trim down overall. CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), found in grass-fed butter, has been shown to reduce body fat mass - especially in overweight individuals.
- Tru-grit tea will give you energy, as well as increase cognitive function, that you can literally feel when it kicks in for about six hours - and without the crash. Mixed with more healthy fats from coconut oil, this amped-up drink will help produce ketones, which are created when your body creates energy from burning fat rather than carbohydrates.
- Two tablespoons of butter in your teais all you need to replace a breakfast meal altogether, making this a quick alternative for people on the go. Providing your body with essential fats and calories is a higher performance blend than a carbohydrate source like oatmeal.
- When you blend it with Trugrit, what you get is the most pleasantly creamy drink that you can actually feel energizing your body. But why stop there? If you are going to put the best butter in your tea, you should have the best of everything…
“MCTs” are medium-chain triglycerides, a form of saturated fatty acid that has numerous health benefits, ranging from improved cognitive function to better weight management. Coconut oil is one great source of MCTs — roughly 62–65 percent of the fatty acids in coconut oil are MCTs - but recently more concentrated “MCT oils” have also been growing in popularity.
1. Can Help with Weight Loss or Maintenance
Compared to other types of oils and fats, MCTs seem to have positive effects on fat burning and weight reduction. As part of a healthy diet, MCT oil can help increase satiety and even raise the metabolic rate at which the body functions. Does this mean eating large amounts of MCTs daily will make you drop pounds? Not quite. Not every study has shown that MCTs can produce weight loss necessarily, but some definitely have shown the positive effects of MCTs on metabolic function.
For example, a 2003 study published in The Journal of Obesity and Related Metabolic Disorders showed that after comparing long-term consumption of MCTs and LCTs on energy expenditure, body composition, and fat oxidation in obese women, the MCTs have more significant effects. Substitution of MCTs for LCTs in a targeted energy balance diet proved to offer better prevention of long-term weight gain due to increases in energy expenditure and fat-burning.
Another 2001 study published in The Journal of Nutrition compared body weight and body fat in groups of adults either consuming long-chain fats or medium-chain fats over a 12-week period. The energy, fat, protein and carbohydrate intakes did not differ significantly between the groups, only the types of fats they were receiving. After 12 weeks, the decrease in body weight and body fat was significantly greater in the MCT group than in the LCT group. The decrease in the area of subcutaneous fat in the MCT group was also significantly greater than that in the LCT group, which suggests that the MCT diet might be able to help reduce body weight and fat in individuals who need to lose weight.
How do MCTs help with weight loss? Experimental studies demonstrate that dietary MCTs suppress fat deposition through enhanced thermogenesis and fat oxidation in both animals and humans. In other words, it’s believed that they help the body produce ketones, which gives you the same benefits as the ketogenic diet without needing to cut carbs to drastically low levels. In fact, MCTs are sometimes called “the ultimate ketogenic fats” because of their heating effect in the body and ability to rapidly be used for energy, especially when someone is not eating a lot of carbohydrates.
2. Help Protect Heart Health
A 2010 study published in The Journal of Neutraceuticals and Functional Foods reported that MCTs can help prevent the development of metabolic syndrome — a term given to a cluster of metabolic disorders such as abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension and impaired fasting glucose levels. MCTs seem to be able to help decrease cardiovascular disease, and mortality risk in general, due to helping lower odds of becoming obese. Most likely, they have this positive effect because they are anti-inflammatory, easy to digest, satiating, and easily used for energy as described above.
3. Helps Improve Energy Levels and Your Mood
Your brain is largely made up of fatty acids, so you need a steady supply from your diet to feel your best, think clearly, perform well at work, and stay sharp well into older age. Medium-chain fats are believed to be one of the most easily digested, utilized, and protective fatty acids that exists.
A 2004 study published in The Journal of Neurobiology of Aging found that the MCTs in coconut oil helped improved memory problems, including Alzheimer’s disease, in older adults. It only makes sense that a food that supplies fuel for your brain and also helps you absorb vitamins and minerals better will also make you feel more clearheaded, energetic, and positive.
MCT oil helps not only feed your brain cells, but also improves your gut health - which is largely connected to cognitive functioning thanks to the “gut-brain connection.” In one animal study published in The Journal of Animal Feed and Sciences, when pigs were either fed a standard feed mixture (the control) or the same mixture supplemented with two grams each of caprylic or capric MCTs, the pigs receiving MCTs showed improvements in bacterial gut health, performance, growth, and digestion of nutrients, including proteins and fiber.
4. Helps Improve Digestion and Nutrient Absorption
Both MCT oil and coconut oil are beneficial for balancing bacteria in the gut microbiota, which in turn has positive effects on digestive symptoms, energy expenditure, and the ability to absorb vitamins and minerals from the foods you eat. Medium-chain fats can help kill a wide range of pathogenic virus strains and bacteria that cause digestive issues, including candida, constipation, diarrhea, food poisoning, stomachaches, and so on.
You also need to consume healthy fats in order absorb fat-soluble nutrients found in various foods. These include nutrients like beta-carotene (a precursor of vitamin A found in plants like berries, squash, and leafy greens), vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and lutein. When you consume a healthy diet filled with lots of different whole, plant foods but don’t get enough healthy fat sources at the same time, your body is basically not capable of utilizing these nutrients as well.
5. Has Antibacterial, Antiviral, and Antifungal Properties
MCTs are powerful, natural antibiotics that help balance bacteria in the gut. In the age of antibiotic resistance, it’s meaningful to have natural methods to kill some harmful types of bacteria. Here are some known to be killed by medium-chain fats: streptococcus (which causes strep throat, pneumonia and sinus infections), straphylococcus (which causes food poisoning and urinary tract infections), neisseria (which causes meningitis, gonorrhea and pelvic inflammatory diseases), and some other strains that cause stomach viruses, candida, ulcers and sexually transmitted diseases.
In fact, there are at least a dozen pathogenic viruses that have been inactivated, at least partially, by lauric acid. Another great thing about MCTs is that they are capable of reducing “bad bacteria” without harming or removing “good bacteria.” That’s important, considering we need the good kind for intestinal health and digestive functioning.
According to some studies, medium-chain fats offer better protection from infections than longer-chain fatty acids do. A study published in The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry found that fatty acids and monoglycerides with chain lengths varying from 8–12 carbons were found to be more strongly antiviral and antibacterial when added to milk and formula than long-chain monoglycerides. Medium-chain lipids added to milk and formula inactivated a number of pathogens including respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), haemophilus influenzae and streptococcus.
