Inflammation

Inflammation

Inflammation occurs when white blood cells rush to an area to provide need support and healing, which often results in swelling, heat radiating from the area, and discomfort. Common reasons for inflammation to take place include injury or infection. In addition to these common reasons, auto-immune conditions (such as arthritis) may result in inflammation as well as the body attempts to heal the damaged area that is being affected by the condition which is present. Treating inflammation in the short term is quite easy; there are a number of over the counter medications and remedies that will offer temporary relief of the pain, discomfort, and swelling that are often associated with inflammation. However, in cases of long-term or chronic inflammation relying solely on pharmaceuticals can result in liver damage and dependency, neither of which are good for the body. The good news is that the EGCG that is present in high concentration in green and white teas may actually help fight inflammation. In some cases, it is reported that long term intake of this powerful anti-oxidant (within proper dosage) may result in long term systemic benefits, which could further help to fight more long term and chronic conditions that result in inflammation.
