Salted caramel -  the flavor combination made its successful run from rarefied Parisian pastry shops to American big-box stores in about a decade — a relatively short period, according to people who study food trends.

Salted caramel did not make it to the top without help, not the least of which was Americans’ longstanding taste for salty mixed with sweet. Tin roof sundaes, turtles, pralines and other combinations of salty nuts and caramelized sugar have long been staples in the nation’s confectionary canon. Cracker Jack, with its roasted peanuts and molasses-flavored popcorn, was born in 1893. Snickers bars and Reese’s peanut butter cups came along in the 1920s.

But first, the American palate needed a little more priming. That came from two other trends. One was the rise of specialty salt itself, with French fleur de sel, sea salt from the Maldon marshes in England and Hawaiian red salt turning up at supermarkets. Salted caramels also owe a great deal of gratitude to dulce de leche, the caramel made from cooked milk that is popular in South America and Mexico. Introduced in Häagen-Dazs ice cream in 1997 and it spread to Cheesecake at popular restaurants.

While Salted Caramels may not be the healthiest choice, pairig it with tea makes it a dramatically less sinful dessert with truly authentic taste.

AmazingReview by Bkwrm
This tea is so good. It taste just like you would imagine from the name. It's rich and sweet. I add the tiniest bit of sugar. I'm not a person who adds milk or cream to tea but I bet it would be great in this tea. I've got all my daughters and grandkids drinking this one. (Posted on 1/12/2018)

Good FlavorReview by Noreen
I enjoyed this tea, but I didn't find it to be that flavorful. I expected the caramel and chocolate to be a little more pronounced. I tried it unsweetened and with a little stevia. I enjoyed the tea, but wished the caramel and chocolate were a little stronger. (Posted on 3/15/2017)
Absolutely try this teaReview by Noell
I love this Salted Chocolate Carmel tea!! I tried a chocolate tea a few years ago at a farm luncheon and have never seen that brand again. I am not a huge chocolate fan and did not think it should be in my tea until I had that first cup...I thought when I saw this it was worth the try and I am SO glad I did! I love this tea! Its amazing with a little cream and sugar. You will feel satisfied like you had a fantastic cup of hot chocolate! (Posted on 2/17/2017)

I don't really taste the tea, I just taste the chocolate and caramel notes. This is the only black tea I drink unsweetened!! (Posted on 5/11/2016)

InterestingReview by Bekah
I purchased a sample of this and tried it this morning. I could definitely taste the chocolate and caramel. I think this tea might be good for people who like the taste of coffee but want a tea. (Posted on 1/22/2014)
WonderfulReview by James P.
I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of flavored teas. That being said, this tea is simply wonderful. The caramel aroma is much stronger than the taste, making for a very well rounded and very aromatic cup. (Posted on 1/13/2012)
