St. Petersburg’s Winter Palace was commissioned by Catherine the Great and built between 1754 and 1762. As it goes, the architect that was charged with designing the opulent structure, with its 1,786 doors and 1,945 windows, was an Italian named Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Rastrelli, knowing nothing of Russia or Catherine the Great, naturally wanted to bring the comforts of home with him to his new city. For the architect this included the sweet taste of Marzipan, or in Italian Marzipane, made famous by the artisans of Palermo who molded the confection to resemble fresh fruit. In particular, he loved a special version made with Moroccan almonds, imported to Sicily via Tunisia. In his traveling chests he stockpiled enough to last him through his first season.

Unbeknownst to Rastrelli his patron, Catherine the Great, was also a lover of Marzipan. However, owing to her German descent, she was born Sophie Friederike Auguste von Anhalt-Zerbst, it was typically the Germanic version of the sweet treat she craved. Unbeknownst to Rastrelli, Catherine the Great was also a great lover of the men-folk. One day while casually enjoying a papaya shaped piece of Marzipan after lunch, Catherine spotted him in the hall. It was love at first sight. Rastrelli offered her some of his dessert, Catherine acquiesced and offered him…well…we can’t go there. In the end, the Winter Palace was completed a little behind schedule perhaps, but at least the architect had a smile on his face.

As in the immortal words of Jack Palance: “Believe it or not”. To celebrate the fortuitous nature of this historical meeting we’ve blended this fantastic herbal tea with Rooibos, almond pieces, dried papaya and natural flavors. Enjoy the almond-like flavors of love.

To me, this smells and tastes very much like Robitussen cough syrup. Not for me. (Posted on 12/30/2017)

I really enjoyed this blend. Im pregnant and trying to stock up on some rooibos/honeybush/herbal tisanes so that I can still enjoy tea without the caffeine. Ive been on a bit of a "nutty" kick lately, anything with nuts in it I have to try! When it comes to almond/marzipan, there is a fine line between artificial and cherry tasting & nutty almond cream. Upon opening my sample packet, it smelled a little bit like cherry cough medicine-not going to lie. I was hesitant but decided to go ahead and brew it anyway. Thankfully once brewed, this blend both smells and tastes great! It doesn't taste artificial and its definitely a nutty almond flavor with a hint of that marzipan/amaretto sweetness. The aftertaste has a little bit of that cherry flavor but I am able to look past it. I am super picky when it comes to almond teas, and I'm pregnant lol, so if I like it then I think you'll like it too. I will definitely buy this in a larger quantity next time I make a purchase! I love this tea. My 3 yr old even wakes and wants a cup of this precious tea. I can enjoy it anytime of the day because Rooibos is Caffeine free. I love to open up a bag and just inhale the deep aroma. If you love almond than this is your tea. My favorite thing is to add milk and sugar and treat it like a chai. (Posted on 7/9/2017)
the best marzipan teaReview by Angela

Being a marzipan fan, I've tried many flavored teas in the past that ended up being a disappointment. But THIS one tastes exactly how a marzipan tea should - a little sweet, but not overpowering, and blending wonderfully with the rooibos. I bought a sample in-store, and to this day regret that I didn't just buy all of it then and there. (Posted on 12/28/2016)

Love this tea! Tried it during my first visit to the cafe and I have never ordered anything else. I easily go through a 5 ounce can in a week. Best of all, I have no issues with caffeine side effects unlike like other teas that are supposedly decaf or caffeine free. Plus it has a wonderful flavor that is subtle, but very much present. This tea is just delicious - I rarely add ceam or sweetener to my hot teas, but make an exception for this one, as it turns a great cup of tea into a decadent treat! Rooibos is the perfect base for this flavor combination, and with the added antioxidants and health benefits, its a must try - even if you're not a Marzipan fan! (Posted on 7/27/2016)

I just recently got into marzipan flavored items and I am so glad I tried this tea! I love the cherry almond flavor that didn't taste overwhelming or artificial. It was a gentle flavor that I also enjoyed with a little almond milk. (Posted on 5/25/2016)

The marzipan is a mix of almond taste and cherry taste. This tea gets it right with the real almonds added into the mix. The whole family loves it. (Posted on 5/13/2016)

Decadent!Review by Bekah
If you are a fan of cherry or almond flavored treats, this is the tea for you. It is sweet, but not overpowering. You get the delicious cherry flavor that almonds are known for, while also getting a hint of nuttiness. A definite favorite. (Posted on 1/17/2014)
This is another family favorite. My grandson particularly like this teaReview by Patricia
Marzipan is a rich candy made with ground almonds and most frequently shaped into small fruit shapes. If you like the candy or the flavor of almonds if you have never had marzipan I think you will enjoy this tea. It has a wonderful almond fragrance and can be sipped as brewed, but I prefer at least a little sugar to enhance and bring out the rich almond flavor. My family likes it with both a little sugar and milk. It is a family favorite and also has the benefit of no caffeine and lots of antioxidants! (Posted on 10/31/2013)
