East Frisia, located on the North Sea, has a per capita tea consumption second only to Ireland. In an otherwise coffee drinking country, East Frisia is noted for its consumption of tea and its tea culture. Strong black tea is served whenever there are visitors to an East Frisian home or other gathering, as well as with breakfast, mid-afternoon, and mid-evening. Tea is sweetened with kluntjes, a rock candy sugar that melts slowly, allowing multiple cups to be sweetened. Heavy cream is also used to flavor the tea. The tea is generally served in traditional small cups, with little cookies during the week and cake during special occasions or on weekends as a special treat. Brown rum, mixed with kluntjes and left for several months, is also added to black tea in the winter

This famous tea is our strongest blend and flagship breakfast tea. We use a base of quality broken assams with plenty of tips. This provides the intense strength and malt that makes this a halmark classic. We then round out this tea with Estate Java and Sumatra teas. Based on an award winning recipe - and blended in small batches in our blendlab - you are sure to love this premium breakfast tea.

Outstanding breakfast tea for anytime.Review by MirandaT.
A Friesian connnection led me to try East Frisian Tea. Fortunate decision. East Frisian Tea has just the right amount of aroma with full, round flavor. It is excellent at breakfast or any time of day. I have been adding some light cream and find an afternoon mug of East Frisian Tea to be incredibly soothing. If you enjoy English breakfast tea you might very well like this - maybe even more. (Posted on 11/25/2016)
Full, round and very, very good.Review by Erica
I decided to try the East Frisian tea because of a connection to Friesland, NL. The experiment paid off. East Frisian tea is a satisfying, solid, just the right amount of fragrant black tea. Adding light cream makes it a real, soothing treat. If you like English breakfast tea you might just like this better. (Posted on 11/17/2016)
As delicious as rememberedReview by Matt
I was an exchange student in Germany in 1992, and my host family drank tea every morning and throughout the day. Being only 17 at the time and not much of either a coffee or tea drinker up to that point, the time taken to enjoy a nice cup of tea was a nice little routine. My day would start with a cup of Ostfriesen Mischung (the German name for East Frisian Blend) and some toasted dark bread with butter and sour cherry jam.

Fast forward to 42 year old me, who had grown somewhat bored by coffee, and wanted to find Ostfriesen Mischung to drink again. I didn't want to buy bagged tea from a large manufacturer, because who knows how long that's been sitting in a warehouse? I found that The Whistling Kettle had East Frisian Blend available loose and promptly ordered a pound.

This tea is as delicious as I remembered, with a generous maltiness and notes of ripe stone fruit. I take my first cup in the morning with a little sugar and milk, and omit the milk the rest of the day. I am so happy to have found this tea in bulk, and I am now a Whistling Kettle customer for life!

Best breakfast tea out thereReview by Grey
Once upon a time, a company called Specialteas had an award winning east Frisian blend. They were bought out by Teavana and shut down, and this tea went away. Luckily, it is still available - the same quality assam base with the java and sumatra teas. There isn't any other Frisian breakfast blend on the market like this. Rich, bold flavor...I love it!
