How many cups of tea will a 16 ounce bag of tea make?
This is an interesting, and common question. We have a sign in our tea room that says 16oz of tea makes about 53-64 18oz pots. These are the personal stump pots we use in house. So, in this example - 16oz of tea would make between 159 and 192 6oz tea cups.
Using this formula you can guess how long this tea will last you. Personally, I never drink 6oz of tea, and generally drink a 12-18oz at a time. 18oz, once a day gives you roughly 2 months worth of tea. I drink our East Frisian Blend with my wife every morning - so we double the quantity used and therefore one pound lasts us for a month or so.
Keep in mind some teas, like fruit teas and chai teas call for more tea per cup. Quality green teas, Oolongs and Pu-erhs can be resteeped multiple times, so you can make more tea from the same quanitiy. (Which is great since the better ones are higher priced).
We always recommend buying tea that you will use in a few months. We keep almost daily monitoring of inventory so our products are as fresh as possible.
